WHAT IS COVID CLEAN?
The restaurant business is one of the hardest-hit industries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, upwards of 8 million restaurant employees have been laid off or furloughed and The National Restaurant Association estimates that American restaurants have lost over $225 billion in sales.
COVID Clean is a non-profit organization that drives revenue into Tucson’s restaurants by instilling confidence that meals are being prepared in a clean and safe manner. Our mission is to ensure that Tucson’s restaurants prepare and serve their food in accordance with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and Pima County Health Department.
WHAT IS THE COVID CLEAN PLEDGE?
PARTNERSHIP WITH PIMA COUNTY
COVID Clean restaurants sign on to the Pledge and agree to random inspections to ensure their compliance. The following COVID Clean Pledge is designed to be consistent with the guidance provided by the CDC, FDA, and Pima County Health Department:

Regularly disinfect and clean workspaces and equipment

Pre-screen employees (e.g., assess symptoms prior to starting work)

Require employees to wear a mask or face covering

Instruct employees to use gloves whenever possible

Require employees to practice frequent hand-washing
We are very happy to announce that COVID Clean has formed a partnership with Pima County’s Ready For You program.
Pima County is working with restaurants, bars, hotels, resorts, and area attractions to assure consumers that these industries are doing what is necessary to protect the public from the spread of COVID-19 while getting back to business. The Board of Supervisors adopted a set of protective measures that these businesses must follow to protect the public. Businesses that are confirmed to be following the rules will receive a Ready For You “badge” that they can place at entrances and other prominent locations, and on their websites and marketing materials, that will notify the public that the County has confirmed the company is in compliance with these protective measures.

WHY IS COVID CLEAN ADVANTAGEOUS FOR CONSUMERS?
FEEDING THE HUNGRY
Tucsonans are eager to support their restaurants and also want assurance that their meals are being prepared and handled with proper protections in place. COVID Clean aims to provide confidence to consumers to support local establishments. In addition to helping increase restaurants’ revenue, COVID Clean provides out-of-work restaurant employees with free meals.
COVID Clean is a free service, but we accept gift cards from restaurants. We donate the gift cards to food insecure, unemployed restaurant workers. To date, COVID Clean has distributed over $3,000 worth of gift cards to recently unemployed restaurant workers.

Patrons can order food from restaurants that pledge to adhere to the CDC, FDA, and Pima County Health Department guidelines.
